Every week there are hundreds of thousands of new songs hitting the airwaves. It’s too much for just your two ears to handle. With all those options, you can’t be wasting your time on tracks worthy of a thumbs down button. But don’t worry, we’re going to save you the hassle. We listen to some of the most hyped and interesting songs each week, and tell you which are worthy of your precious listening time. Here are our top 5 songs to stream this week: Rihanna — Work (Feat. Drake) Listen to to the track on Tidal or Apple Music The lead single on Rihanna’s eighth studio album, Work, is a digitally-produced island banger that shows off the singer’s tried-and-true vocal talent. With rolling accented vocals followed by a guest verse from longtime Rihanna collaborator Drake, the new song captures your ears from the get-go, a hooky pop song with well-layered Caribbean undertones. Coldplay — Hymn For The Weekend (Feat. Beyonce) A positive jam which shows off the bright side of oft-depressing pop outfit Coldplay, Hymn For The Weekend is a happy-go-lucky number — the kind of thing that one could imagine playing during a World Cup preview, or maybe an Olympic Torch ceremony. With a new music video that showcases the luscious sites of India, including a Bollywood-clad Beyonce, the song is an uplifting effort. It’s the kind of overtly happy number, with enough musical layering to make it easy to forget the lyrics aren’t exactly inspired. The Chemical Brothers — Wide Open (Feat. Beck) Famed electronic outfit The Chemical Brothers’ collaboration with legendary songwriter Beck was graced this week with an extremely transfixing music video. Showcasing the talents of dancer Sonoya Mizuno, viewers watch as Mizuno slowly transforms into an invisible human with a woven exterior casing, and a glowing pink heart. A repetitive tech-pop jam with a driving drum beat which keeps it from being too-sprawling, the song finds itself oddly suited to nighttime drives, the kind of track that will help you calm down after a long day at the office. Jorja Smith — Blue Lights Blue Lights is the kind of classic-era R&B jam that we wish artists kept producing long after the mid-2000s Jill Scott Era. A flowing, vocally-driven number which relies on a well-selected keyboard sample in its center, the track is accented by Smith’s tremendous vocal abilities. An 18-year-old vocalist with a Rihanna-meats-Adele style, Smith allegedly still works at Starbucks to pay the rent. Look out for more hits from the singer in the future — up is the only place she’ll go from here. Frankie Cosmos — Sinister A chipper pop tune from up-and-coming indie act Frankie Cosmos, Sinister uses a driving bass line and airy vocals to enthrall listeners through its short two-minute run time. A head-bobbing sidewalk-stepper that gets stuck in your brain and doesn’t let go, the track will easily make it on your early-morning playlist. It’s just the kind of easy-flowing jam that makes the whole day feel shorter. That’s it for now, but check back every week for more new tunes to stream!
